Bridging the Worlds of MUMPS and Java/RDBMS on OpenVMS
CAV Systems Ltd announces a suite of technologies for bridging the legacy world of roll-n-scroll MUMPS applications with today’s prevailing technologies of Java and Relational databases. These technologies address the three key issues facing all legacy systems – Interoperability, Usability, and Portability.
Interoperability:
Our M2R_Replicator product enables MUMPS-based systems (DSM, Caché or GT.M) to create and continuously update in realtime a relational replica of the production MUMPS database. The relational replica may be proprietary products such as Oracle and SQLServer or open-source products such as MySQL and PostgreSQL. This opens up the world of COTS packages that are typically designed for use with standard relational databases with minimal impact on production systems.
Usability:
Our MJSP toolset enables MUMPS-based systems (DSM, Caché or GT.M) to web-enable roll-n-scroll legacy applications in a simple straightforward manner with minimal impact on production systems. A description can be found at http://mjsp.sourceforge.net/.
Portability:
For those seeking migration of large complex mission-critical applications developed over many years using MUMPS, our JUMPS (Java from MUMPS) technology facilitates creation of functionally identical Java-based systems operating with a standard relational database without any MUMPS technology needed in the deployment environment. Following migration, the application can continue to be maintained and enhanced from a single code base in MUMPS and be deployed either on the legacy M platform or on the new migrated platform, or future development can be entirely in Java.
