Job Description:
The Oracle DBA will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of all Oracle based home grown Financial Applications; installation, configuration and upgrades (security updates) of multiple environments on OpenVMS, Tru64, and Solaris. Performance monitoring and optimization of the applications and Databases; Oracle system administration. Facilitating resolution of complex technical issues by working with cross-functional teams. Candidates for this position must exhibit a high degree of professionalism, customer service and enthusiasm. They must be able to work independently and solve problems with minimal instructions.
Responsibilities:
- The Oracle DBA will be responsible for all standard database administrative tasks, such as: proactive performance tuning, monitoring and profiling, trouble-shooting, back-up and recovery, partitioning, replication, installations and configurations on an as needed basis as well as applying patches and upgrades.
- The candidate will be responsible for the evaluation and implementation of new features in Oracle and functionality and performance tuning, troubleshooting and issue resolution and administration tasks across 10g, 9i, and 8i environments.
- The Oracle DBA will be responsible for the design, development, and support of mission critical Oracle-based applications. Provide analysis relating to current database software design and development, and resolves problems.
- Work closely with the Software Development staff to design and implement systems and assist the development team with query structures, optimization and troubleshooting.
- Designs and develops quality assurance standards, processes, and controls.
- Design, develop and transition Oracle software designs, measurements and services that improve processes of the management of all RDBMS products.
- Ensure that appropriate technology and RDBMS systems management practices are used to meet all high availability business requirements.
- Design system and RDBMS attributes such as survivability, security, performance, dependability, and maintainability.
- Possess the ability to apply design considerations for stored procedures and SQL scripts that could impact the production environment.
Qualifications:
- Must have at least 5+ years experience as an Oracle Applications DBA with 8, 9i and 10g databases.
- Experience with installation, configuration, ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
- Proficient on VMS, HP Tru-64, and Solaris platform.
- Proven experience with Oracle features such as RMAN, Data Guard, partitioning, streams, and parallel processing.
- Strong working experience of database administration, backup and recovery, modelling, tuning, monitoring, and security.
- Oracle Forms and Reports application server administration experience a plus.
- Oracle system administration and SQL, PL/SQL and UNIX shell scripting.
- Solid understanding of database and data warehouse design.
- Knowledge of MS SQL 2000 and 2005 a plus.
- Knowledge of UNIX and shell scripts.
- Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and articulate them to other team members and managers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in general and strong facilitation and presentation experience skills specifically.
- Ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business.
- Strong interpersonal skills, self motivated and very detail oriented with superior problem solving ability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
